Understanding and Finding the Best Home Acne Treatment

Traditionally, acne is considered a problem that only teens and young adults have to deal with, but the truth is that acne can affect adults of all ages. A good home acne treatment is the first line of defense against whiteheads, black heads, and pimples. By learning what causes acne and the different ways to treat it a person will be more likely to find the best acne prevention for them.

What Causes Acne

Acne out breaks occur when pores become clogged. Pores can become clogged with dead skin cells, natural oils, sweat, and other debris like dust and makeup. This clogging triggers a swelling of the pore which causes a pimple, whitehead, or blackhead to form. Breakouts most commonly affect the facial area, back of the neck, and back. However, acne can occur almost anywhere on the body.

Over the Counter Treatments

There are a number of acne treatment products that can be bought without a prescription. Most of these products contain at least one of the following ingredients.

Alcohol and acetone are normally used together in products meant for people with overly oily skin. The alcohol is used to reduce propionibacteria acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. The acetone clears away excess oil from the skin.

Benzoyl peroxide is found in most acne products. It kills off the bacteria that causes outbreaks, and treats the inflammation.

Home Acne Remedies

While over the counter products can work, many people try different home acne remedies to treat their acne first. The reason for this is that most home acne remedies will not contain any artificial chemicals. Often home remedies are a little cheaper to try than other products.

Oatmeal that has been cooked can be spread over the affected area. It should be left on for ten to twenty minutes and then washed off.

A nice face wash can be made by mixing water with avocado paste. This wash should be used around once a day.

Cucumbers blended into a thick paste can be used as a skin refresher for the facial area, and it helps keep pores from clogging. It should be left on for around 30 minutes and then washed away.

For a quick acne treatment fresh garlic can be spread over the breakout. While smelly, this will dry out the acne.

Acne Prevention Tips

A good home acne treatment is great to have, but there are a number of things that a person can do the reduce the number of outbreaks they have.

By drinking a full eight glasses of water a day the number of outbreaks can be reduced. In fact, doing this will improve a person's overall completion.

The person should try not to sleep on their face. This can cause a large acne problem, because when a person sleeps the sweat and oil cannot dry out.

Try not to stress too much. It has been proven that having too much stress can cause more frequent acne out breaks. So everyone should take a deep breath and try not to sweat the small stuff.
